6 concepts to describe the way we work
  • Project-tank: although we value the importance of high-level synergistic research and analysis, we think that good solutions are only those that have survived the test of practice. That’s why we have mutated the concept of think-tank to adapt it to our specific aims, which are practical, as well as theoretical.

  • Vector: in genetics, a vector is a “vehicle”, such as a modified virus or DNA molecule, used to deliver genetic material into the body. In our case, we see ourselves as the “carriers” of those pioneering ideas that need to be injected in our local and global societies to improve our lives and those of millions of people around the globe.

  • Innovation & Creativity: globalisation has created an unprecedented situation on our planet, generating problems that require radically new solutions. We believe many of the most innovative responses are coming from civil society organisations worldwide, but that these need to be disseminated more widely and in a more creative and technologically-savvy way.

  • Not-for-profit: this means we are not conducted or maintained for the purpose of making financial gains. Instead, we operate to serve what we think is a public good. Any net earnings we make are not given to share-holders, but are used for the aims that we are trying to achieve. This does not mean that we work for free - we have families to maintain too! We do however rely on the generosity of public and private donors to carry out our work.

  • Independence & Transparency: we have no political or religious affiliation, because we believe in being independent. We are ready to work with anyone who shares our vision of a more just, peaceful and sustainable world, where our deserved freedoms as individual human beings do not come at the expense of our collective responsibilities as citizens of a globalised world. For this reason, we strive to be completely transparent about our activities and welcome questions from anyone interested in our work.

  • Local & Global: because our world is increasingly interconnected, we must think and act both locally and globally. This is what makes GlobaLab different to - for example - an international development agency. We think that the lessons that we learn in our local communities could be relevant to people living thousands of miles away. At the same time, we are aware that what is happening in countries and regions on the other side of the globe isaffecting our lives. Making this link is what makes the whole difference!
